I grew up not wanting to be a teacher. In fact, I wanted to be a spy, because it sounded so exciting, but all of that changed when I went on my first missions trip to Cape Town, South Africa, when I was sixteen. During the trip, we had the opportunity to visit the local schools and teach the students about who Jesus is. The trip was truly life changing, and while in Africa, I realized I loved teaching and working with children! After high school, I went to The Master’s College in Southern California, where I received my Teaching License. During this time, I spent a semester in Israel, and also was able to go on two missions trips to Uganda to teach more students in Africa. My plan was to teach overseas after college, but the Lord had a different plan. I taught in Southern California for three years, and then moved up to Oregon to be closer to family, and that’s where I met my husband Joshua. I taught for four years here, in lovely Bend Oregon, and one of those years I taught here at Morning Star. After teaching fifth grade at Morning Star, I took a four year break to stay at home and raise my three kiddos, Ezra, Kai, and Evangeline. I’m excited to be back doing what I love!
Get ready to go on quite the adventure in Fourth Grade!!! We will be learning all about the state of Oregon, and we may even turn our desks into covered wagons to see what it was like to sail through the prairie grasses in search of the wild west. Get ready to get outside of the classroom to make history come alive as we visit historical sights in Oregon. In math, we will be learning all about number sense, patterns, geometry, measurement, and fractions. We will be using iPads for part of our instructional time. In science we will be taking part in four Project Lead the Way learning modules throughout the year, and we will also be studying concepts such as energy, waves, information processing, and the Earth’s structure. We will be reading through various novels during the school year, and tying art into all of the subjects. I’m so excited to teach fourth grade this year! Get ready, because adventure awaits!
