Samantha Chain- I’ve lived in Central Oregon for twelve years and love living life here! I began my career work-ing with children in 2001 when I worked at a before and after school daycare center serving students of the elementary age. At this time I was also completing my BA in Child and Adoles-cent Development at San Jose State. I worked at various preschools in the years following with children ranging in age from infant to three years old. Once I started having my own chil-dren, I opened my own in home daycare and went back to school online to complete my Ore-gon teaching license. Once I finished my student teaching at Saint Francis, I subbed in the Bend LaPine School District as well as Morning Star. I have taught Junior Kindergarten here for the last five years and this is truly where my heart belongs.

Peggy Lowry- After graduating from Cal State Long Beach, I began my teaching career as the principal and the first and second grade teacher at Cornerstone Christian School in Garden Grove California in 1980. My family and I moved to Sherwood Oregon in 1985 and adopted 8 children. Once they were grown, we fostered children for DHS. I also worked for Countryside Christian Church for six years as the Sunday morning infant and preschool coordinator. After a move to Bend in 2013 with our 9th child, I began working at Morning Star Christian School as a pre-school aid in March of 2016. I love children, teaching 4H, have five Alpacas and 29 chickens.

Rebekah Perkins- This is my first year at Morning Star and I could not he more excited! I was drawn to working at Morning Star after I heard all the great experiences that my mother and brother had here. My mother is none other than Joni Perkins! She inspired me to work with kids early on. When I lived in Portland I worked as a substitute aid for a local Christian preschool. That lead me to taking a semester in Early Childhood Education at COCC when I made the move to Bend. I’m very excited to be surrounded by amazing kids and their families as I start this journey.

Jill Wheeler- My name is Jillian Wheeler, I was born and raised in Rhode Island (yes it is small and yes it is very far away with most of my family still there). I moved to Bend 10 years ago, three days after I married my best friend Paul. We now have twochildren, in first grade and P3, who started at Morningstar early last spring! We feel very blessed to have found this school/home for our kids! I have my Degree in Childhood Studies with a focus in Math and a teacher certification. I have worked in intense behavior programs, after-school programs, as well as being a classroom teacher! After time off from teaching and a school setting while my kids were young, I love being back in the classroom! I am enthusiastic about bringing the best and the most effective teaching methods to your child. I strive to help them grow into their full potential of whom God created them to be.

What we want to give our students…

Our goal is to set clear and firm classroom rules and boundaries. It is our passion to create a loving and caring environment where children aren’t afraid to express themselves and their ideas. We want them to learn and grow, not only academically, but socially as well. We look forward to teaching our students about God’s love and grace while presenting Biblical values that instill kindness, empathy and understanding towards others.
